In only a few words, Issa pours out his conflicted feelings, caught between a fleeting world which he knows is impermanent and painful, and the deep love which prevents him from turning away from it. For millennia Buddhists have struggled with this fundamental human dilemma, different sects and individuals finding their own ways to resolve the tension between the Second Noble Truth and the persistent demands of the heart. Complacency when times are (temporarily) good is a common phenomenon that Issa gently mocks:
